The Dark Knight Rises

Posted on Fri, 3 Aug 2012 16:24

Mountain High Maps Plus were used as the base material for motion graphic map sequences in the outstanding new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises.
The motion map graphics were designed and created by BLIND - check out their work here

This is a fantastic film - action/adventure at its best - superb cinematography.
Never mind if you don't like Batman.. this is how this genre should be made..

Go see it - you won't be dissapointed.

Note: Watch out for MHMPlus maps in another upcoming major action/adventure movie, due for UK release on 26 October 2012, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the film series
Graphics in this forthcoming movie also done by BLIND.

MHMPlus would like to take this opportunity to offer sincere condolances to all those affected by the Aurora tragedy.

Very nice graphic treatment of MHMPlus by Creative Nuts for the series Dirty Great Machines.

Utilising selected and appropriate ocean floor relief maps plus the cloud masks to great effect.

Mountain High Maps Plus on its travels

Posted on Wed, 18 May 2011 09:09

Mountain High Maps Plus has been chosen by Bradt, publishers of outstanding and award winning travel guides, as an addition to their map making resources. www.bradtguides.com

Currently MHMPlus relief based maps have been used in their new series 'Slow Guides', however we believe relief based maps may appear in more of their guide titles in the future and we'll post here any such news as soon as we receive it.

Mountain High Maps Plus and Linux

Posted on Wed, 18 May 2011 09:02

We are increasingly being asked if Mountain High Maps Plus works with Linux distros. The answer is basically yes - it all depends on the sofware you are running. The Gimp can handle the bitmap files, pretty much as Photoshop can, see www.gimp.org for more information. Vector files possibly a bit trickier.

We understand that Inkscape can open the CS versions of the Illustrator files however it is probably best to check the Inkscape site and forum for latest news http://inkscape.org

If you use Mountain High Maps Plus on Linux we'd love to hear from you and share any hints and tips you may have that might help other Linux users.

Mountain High Maps Plus in the Movies (again)

Posted on Wed, 18 May 2011 08:59

Mountain High Maps Plus is currently being used in two major Hollywood motion pictures (due for release in 2012). Both are in post production and both are using MHMPlus for map based graphics sequences. Unfortunately we cannot name the films due to non-disclosure agreements, but as soon as we can we will, and hopefully post clips from the sequences.

New Sudan Borders for Mountain High Maps Plus

Posted on Fri, 25 Feb 2011 16:20

With immediate effect all shipping product and downloads will have the new Sudan North-South border included on all relevant maps. (101,102,104,106,604,605 and 606) plus additional place locations and names. Adjacent borders and rivers have also been integrity checked  and updated if necessary.

All associated files have been updated - with the one exception of the pre-coloured Political bitmap file (POL). We decided to leave the inclusion of North or South Sudan up to the end user as they may not wish to show the new countries at this stage. However it is very easy to add the new border or re-colour the North or South areas by using the supplied masks.

Recent purchasers have already been notified of this update  - if you think we have missed you please contact us as you may be eligible for the new files free of charge.

Mountain High Maps Plus on TV again

Posted on Wed, 2 Feb 2011 15:09

Super use of the maps by Burrell Durrant Hifle to create a very individual and suitable style for The Frankincense Trail (Diverse productions/BBC). Animated map sequences showing route taken by Kate Humble as she retraced the Frankincense Trail. Almost no relief showing (except some muted undersea relief) the maps were designed to have a traditional Eastern look with complementary typeface for labels. Nice work from BDH again.
